Biomechanical Assessment and Footscan

A biomechanical assessment involves the Podiatrist taking a full history of any past and current problems, a visual assessment of joint movements in the lower limb. A standing and lying assessment of your muscle strength, movement , posture and foot type. You will then be asked to walk across our dynamic Footscan to identify high pressure areas and any other anomalies in your gait pattern. It is advisable to bring a range of footwear and wear sports clothing or shorts.

The Medical Pedicure

The medical pedicure will transform your feet.Excess hard skin is skilfully and painlessly removed until the skin is completely smooth.Toenails and cuticles are cleaned without cutting and the nails are filed. Podiatrists use one-time only tools (blades and drill tips,) which come from sealed packages and are immediately discarded after use. Also because a medical pedicure is performed on dry feet there is no risk of infection arising from a shared footbath. Everything is extremely hygienic whereas hygiene or sanitation standards cannot always be guaranteed in popular nail salons.

Bunion

A bony bump at the base of the big toe, a bunion causes that toe to deviate toward the others. Throwing foot bones out of alignment and producing the characteristic bump at the joint's base, a bunion can be very painful due to pressure or arthritis, and may also lead to corns. Pain relievers, pads to cushion the bunion, custom shoe inserts, or surgery may help, as will wearing roomy shoes and avoiding high heels.

Ingrowing Toenail

A toenail that has grown into the skin, an ingrown toenail can result in pain, redness, swelling, even infection. Cutting nails too short or not straight across, injury to the toenail, and wearing tight shoes are culprits. For mild cases, soak the foot in warm water, keep it clean, and wedge a small piece of cotton under the corner of the ingrown nail to lift it off the skin. Minor surgery can remove all or part of the nail.

Fungal Nail Infection

Occuring when fungi enter through a break in the nail, a fungal infection can make your nails thick, discolored and brittle. If left untreated, the nail infection won't go away -- and can be hard to treat. Thriving in warm, wet places, the fungi can be spread from person to person.

Corns and Callouses

Friction causes the thick, hardened, dead skin of corns and calluses, which form to protect sensitive skin. Appearing cone-shaped, corns point into the skin, and usually occur on areas that bear little weight. Calluses may appear anywhere there's friction, and are more diffuse. Both may be caused by ill-fitting shoes and will fade when friction stops

Wax Orb Treatment

Introducing an innovative, hygienic and therapeutic paraffin wax. The Orb – new technology – is a hand held skincare warmer for unique warm brush application. A combination of paraffin wax and jojoba, coconut and essential oils. Once painted on, the wax can be ‘massaged’ off in small pressure point moves and it peels away easily leaving a small residue of nourishing oils which can be massaged into the skin for extra moisture and protection from drying. The Heat Orb wax therapy increases blood flow, tolerance for pain, relaxes muscles and increases hydration in the skin.

Athletes Foot

Occurs on the skin of the foot. Can appear on any area of the foot and breeds in damp areas. Good foot hygiene is essential. Over the counter anti fungal preparations can help. Ask your chiropodist for advice.

Verrucas

Verrucas or plantar warts are tough, horny growths that develop on the soles of the feet. Contagious, they're caused by a virus entering through broken skin, and often spread via public pools and showers. Plantar warts are harmless and can be left untreated, but in many cases they're too painful to ignore. Topical salicylic acid may help, while burning, freezing, laser therapy, and surgical removal are more aggressive options for more severe cases. We also offer verruca needling - for more information call reception

Diabetic Foot Assessments

People with diabetes are at increased risk of peripheral arterial disease and neuropathy, as well as having a higher risk of developing infections and decreased ability to clear infections. Therefore, people with diabetes are prone to frequent and often severe foot problems and a relatively high risk of infection, gangrene and amputation. It is therefore important for these at risk patients to have foot screening on an annual basis.
